Pramod Dorishetty receives WACRA award for synthetic heart valve project

We are thrilled to announce that Ear Science multi-disciplinary researcher Dr. Pramod Dorishetty has received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the Heart to Vessel Research Showcase 2024 Symposium.

The annual showcase is organised by the Western Australian Cardiovascular Research Alliance (WACRA) and the Heart Foundation.
Dr. Pramod Dorishetty works across various disciplines including materials science, engineering and biochemistry.

Currently, Pramod is working on an industry-partnered (ANTERIS Technologies) project led by Dr Filippo Valente, which focuses on developing next generation synthetic heart valves that can be delivered via a minimally invasive catheter-based surgical procedure. Over the past year, he has demonstrated a proof-of-concept on manufacturing a single piece of synthetic heart-valve that replicates the natural function of native heart valves.

It is this novel work that has earned him the award. Dr. Dorishetty comments,

This project could be a game-changer for heart disease treatment.

The award, which comes with a $1000 casy prize, was presented at the symposium, which included a plenary speaker, selected EMCR presentations, networking opportunities and a panel discussion.

Established in 2019, WACRA represents all cardiovascular researchers working across the pipeline; from fundamental pre-clinical research, epidemiology and public health through to clinical trials. WACRA is the peak leadership body in WA advancing research into heart, stroke and vascular disease to accelerate translation and improve health outcomes for Western Australians.
