Rough seas cause cancellation of 2024 Rottnest Channel Swim

The 2024 Rottnest Swim this year was impacted by unforeseen weather conditions, resulting in an event cancellation.

The attempted swim took place on Saturday, 24 February, but rough seas forced the iconic channel crossing to be abandoned, with swimmers and supporting vessels struggling to cope in the choppy conditions, with several swimmers in need of rescue.

Sadly, we also had some challenges, with our original team cut down by shoulder injuries affecting John Harris and then Marcus Atlas.

We recruited some great ESIA swimmers – Rhonda Birch and her daughter Megan were joined by Brad Same and his son Shaun, supported by Ian Beacham, David Tuckey and paddler Steven David. We thank the team for all their efforts.

We are immensely grateful for the generous support of the donors to our research and Gift of Hearing appeal, the funding of which helps provide hearing devices for those who cannot access treatment.
