Russell first recognised his hearing loss when he used the telephone one day at work. Being able to hear was essential for the work Russell did. His job involved a lot of communicating with teachers, educators and educational administrators both in person and over the phone. As a result, Russell got hearing aids to improve his hearing.
Hearing aids helped Russell for many years, but he needed something more as his hearing gradually worsened. Russell was working at a university, supervising doctoral students and giving lectures. If it weren’t for my cochlear implant, I wouldn’t be able to hear and converse with my wife, children, grandchildren, and others socially.
