The $1 Million Questions Our Health System Needs Answering
Congratulations to Dr Dona Jayakody for being awarded the RPH Research Foundation’s new Career Advancement Fellowship.
Dr Dona Jayakody leads the Ear Science Institute Australia research team investigating the links between hearing loss and dementia. Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australians, with Aboriginal older adults experiencing dementia at a rate of 3 to 5 times higher than the general Australian population. With no cure or effective treatment insight, it is vital to identify the factors that will help prevent or delay pathological cognitive decline and dementia for the healthy ageing of our community. Dr Jayakody now aims to determine the association between central auditory processing and dementia in Aboriginal older adults.
Dona has been awarded the Career Advancement Fellowship from RPH Research Foundation along with:
Dr Catherine Bondonno & Dr Marc Sim from Edith Cowan University (ECU) Institute for Nutrition Research
Diabetes researcher, Dr Lakshini Herat and Cardiologist Dr Marcio Kiuchi from the Dobney Hypertension Centre
Emergency physician Dr David McCutcheon, from Royal Perth Hospital centre for Clinical Research in Emergency Medicine
Together they will search for the million-dollar questions our health system needs to be answered.
