In early September Ear Science Researcher Dr Hsern Ern Tan presented his research at TEDxUWA Salon.
His studies have determined that chronic eardrum perforations may significantly and negatively affect a person’s life. To combat this his research now has a distinct focus on tissue engineering and optical physics. Through his studies, he has looked into the possibility of using optical coherence tomography and 3D printing for reconstructing perforated tympanic membranes in humans.
Dr Tan is investigating if this 3D printing technology can be applied to treat and even cure eardrum injuries.
